Ultra-tech Cement was incorporated in 2000 as Larsen & Trouble Cement. Later it was demerged and acquired by Grasim and was renamed as UltraTech Cement in 2004. Today UltraTech Cement, an Aditya Birla Group Company and a 60.3% subsidiary of Grasim, Shree Cement, promoted by the Calcutta-based Bangur group, is North India's largest cement producer with an installed capacity of 13.5 MTPA as of FY11. The company is an efficient cement manufacturer and is the market leader in the  north.
